Strength and Fitness

Stronger. Fitter. Moving well for life.

Strength and cardiovascular fitness are both important parts of our overall health and wellbeing. Whether you want to get stronger, improve your fitness, change your body composition, have more energy or simply make everyday life feel easier, I can help you find an approach that works for you.

You don't need to be fit already, and you certainly don't need to love the gym. We'll start from where you are and build from there.

Why Strength Training?

Strength training – also known as resistance training – isn't just about lifting heavy weights or building big muscles. It's about keeping our bodies strong, capable and resilient.

As we get older, we naturally lose muscle mass and strength. Regular resistance training can help to maintain and build muscle, support bone health and help us continue to do the things we want to do as we age.

It can help to:

  • Build and maintain muscle and strength

  • Support bone health

  • Improve balance, stability and functional movement

  • Support a healthy body composition and metabolism

  • Make everyday activities feel easier

  • Support our ability to remain active and independent as we get older

  • Improve confidence and provide important benefits for our overall physical and mental wellbeing

I'm particularly passionate about encouraging women in midlife to strength train. During perimenopause, menopause and beyond, maintaining muscle and bone strength becomes increasingly important – and it's never too late to start.

Why Cardiovascular Exercise?

Strength is only part of the picture. Our heart and lungs need training too.

Cardiovascular or aerobic exercise includes anything that increases your heart rate and breathing – and that doesn't have to mean running for miles or spending hours on a treadmill.

Depending on what you enjoy and your current fitness, it might include brisk walking, cycling, rowing, circuits, tennis or other forms of aerobic exercise.

Regular cardiovascular exercise helps to improve heart and lung health, stamina and overall fitness, as well as supporting weight management, energy levels, mood and general wellbeing.

And just like strength training, it needs to be something that is realistic for you.

Why Do Both?

Strength and cardiovascular training do different jobs, which is why ideally we need both.

Resistance training helps us build and maintain our muscles, bones and physical strength, while cardiovascular exercise develops our heart, lungs and stamina.

Together, they create a much more rounded approach to fitness – helping us to feel stronger, move better, improve our fitness and support our long-term health.

And it doesn't have to take over your life. We can work out what you actually need, what you enjoy and how to fit it into the time you have available.

Personal Training

Personal Training gives you an exercise programme designed around you – your starting point, goals, preferences and lifestyle.

Whether you're completely new to exercise, returning after a break or already active but want more structure and progression, I'll help you exercise safely and effectively while keeping things varied and enjoyable.

I'll encourage and challenge you, but I also understand that exercise doesn't come naturally to everyone. This isn't about being shouted at or pushed until you can't do any more. It's about helping you become stronger and fitter at a pace that's appropriate for you – and building confidence along the way.

Fusion Training

Can't decide between Pilates, strength and fitness? You don't have to.

Fusion Training is my tailored approach to combining different types of exercise within your training.

Depending on what you need, a session might incorporate elements of strength and resistance training, cardiovascular fitness, Pilates, mobility, balance and flexibility.

There is no set formula. We'll work together to decide what you want to achieve and create the right combination for your body, your goals and the way you like to exercise.

One session might have a greater strength focus, another might combine Pilates with resistance work, while another might incorporate more cardiovascular fitness.

That's the point of Fusion Training – your training adapts to you, rather than you having to fit into a predetermined programme.

Finding What Works for You

I believe the best exercise programme is one you can actually see yourself continuing.

You don't need to enjoy every second of every workout, but exercise shouldn't feel like something you're constantly forcing yourself to do. Part of my role is helping you discover what works for you and finding ways to make movement effective, achievable and, wherever possible, enjoyable.

Whether your goal is to become stronger, improve your fitness, move better, support your health through midlife or simply feel better in yourself, we'll build an approach that fits you and your life.

My Studio

Sessions take place in my private, newly renovated home studio in the North Dorset countryside.
