Pilates
Move better. Feel stronger. Build confidence in your body.
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that focuses on strength, control, mobility, balance and posture. It can be adapted to suit almost anyone – whether you're completely new to exercise, already very active, or simply want to move and feel better in everyday life.
I offer both Mat and Reformer Pilates, either individually or in combination, from my private home studio in the beautiful North Dorset countryside.
Why Pilates?
Pilates is about much more than flexibility. Done well, it can be surprisingly challenging and is an excellent way to develop whole-body strength and control.
Regular Pilates can help you:
Build core and whole-body strength
Improve mobility and flexibility
Develop better balance, stability and coordination
Improve posture and body awareness
Move with greater control and confidence
Complement other sports and forms of exercise
Maintain movement and physical function as you get older
Pilates can be adapted to different ages, abilities and fitness levels. You don't need to be flexible, strong or experienced before you start – that's what we're there to work on.
Mat Pilates
Don't be fooled into thinking Mat Pilates is the easier option! Using your own body weight – together with small equipment where appropriate – Mat Pilates can provide a challenging and highly effective whole-body workout.
I offer 1-to-1, duet and small-group Mat Pilates, with sessions adapted to the ability and goals of the people taking part.
You can also create your own small group with friends, giving you the social side of a class while keeping the session more personal.
Reformer Pilates
The Reformer uses springs and resistance to support, challenge and add variety to Pilates exercises.
I have two professional-grade Reformers in my private home studio, allowing me to offer both 1-to-1 and duet Reformer sessions.
Working individually or as a pair means I can pay close attention to your movement and tailor the exercises and resistance to suit your ability, goals and progress.
And Reformer Pilates isn't necessarily harder or more advanced than Mat Pilates – both can be made as accessible or as challenging as you need them to be.
A Personal Approach
I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to exercise.
I'll listen to what you want to achieve, look at how you move and tailor your Pilates sessions accordingly. Some people come to me specifically for Pilates; others want it to complement their strength training, tennis or other activities.
Whether you're a complete beginner or have practised Pilates for years, the aim is to challenge you appropriately while making sessions enjoyable and achievable.
Fusion Training
Pilates doesn't have to sit in isolation.
If you'd like a more varied approach, Fusion Training allows us to combine Pilates with Strength and/or Cardiovascular Fitness within the same session or programme.
You might benefit from the control, mobility and movement quality of Pilates alongside resistance training to develop strength, or add cardiovascular work to improve overall fitness and stamina.
There is no fixed formula. We'll choose the combination that works for you, your body and your goals.
That's the idea behind Fusion Training – bringing different elements of exercise together rather than feeling that you have to choose just one.
